NEDLANDS BRIDGE CLUB

Nedlands Bridge Club is located in the leafy and beautiful suburb of Nedlands, Perth, Western Australia. The premises are situated in a delightful park area, with tall gum trees near the back of the club house and tennis courts and croquet greens in the front of the clubhouse. This environment is ideal for the magpies who have now adopted the club as their social centre. After playing bridge, it is a real pleasure to sit on the verandah and listen to the chatter of the birds as they join in the post mortems or just hop around asking for treats. This is truly a delightful club in which to play bridge.

The original club was Rosendorff’s, founded and run by Nigel Rosendorff, a well-known West Australian bridge player who has represented Australia many times. His club was situated in the Broadway Shopping Mall where it prospered. By 1988 insufficient parking prompted Nigel to enter into an agreement with the Nedlands’ City Council to lease the defunct Nedlands’ Bowling Club.  However, the Council would only lease to a club owned by its members, as opposed to a privately owned club. So the members 'bought out' Nigel and then committed themselves to an extensive fund raising project in order to carry out some substantial alterations, such as the installation of air conditioning.

In 1990 Nigel moved on to form his own club and Rosendorff's was renamed ‘Nedlands Bridge Club’.  Its first president was Alf Cunningham, a much loved gentleman, who sadly died in 2002. He and the original members, of whom sixty are still with the Club, continued to nurture and develop it. Today it has a membership in excess of 400, and is one of the largest in WA. Its ethos is to have fun in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where you can have a great game of bridge followed by a very social get together with other players and the magpies.

Nedlands runs sessions every day of the week except for Sunday and offers courses and supervised sessions for aspiring bridge players.

Everybody is welcome.
